The Hamilton East Mountain Community (EMC) Association

Welcome...and a few words as way of introduction to the website

The www.hamiltoneastmountaincommunity.com or alternatively www.hamiltonemc.com website is now online. Here, you will find a neighbourhood focused viewpoint with respect to East Mountain concerns as well as various community initiatives. But the goal of this website goes well beyond information-sharing; this is aspirationally, a portal of neighbourhood engagement - “a call to action” . So please get involved and contribute your thoughts with your Hamilton East Mountain friends and "make a case for change" to improve the locale.

With this end in mind, a digital Petition for a local issue on the website might suggest the following workflow:

  1. perhaps an issue or suggestion will be raised by one of our neigbbours through an article / comment on the webpage (you will need to register first)
  2. a poll can then be set up on the website to determine if there is a significant consensus (quorum thresholds to be determined)
  3. finally, a digital petition can be circulated to our community via email which will then be forwarded to our local representatives (with a prepended executive summary)

Looking forward to your comments and involvement Together, we can make a difference!

Some highlight's of EMC analysis on why Hamilton's Public Works should eliminate the Kenilworth Access as a Truck Route

E-mail Print PDF

1. Truck Route Master Plan Study could be more comprehensive by including input from: Public Health on environmental health and quality of life issues, the efficiency of using the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the link as an alternative to the Kenilworth Access, Hamilton Conservation Authority, and Niagara Escarpment Commission.

 2. More consideration could be given to the different needs and concerns of citizens from various areas; for example, the escarpment should receive separate attention due to its unique structure and as part of the Bruce Trail.

3. The City of Hamilton’s plans and objectives for safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists and the Public Health Dept’s plans to develop complete and healthy communities could be better reflected in the Master Plan by considering these issues. A portion of Mountain Brow Blvd. is part of the Bruce Trail.

4. The Truck Route Master Plan study appears to be industry oriented to favour economic factors over health and safety considerations. The association between air pollution and health is well documented in the scientific literature.
